Hands-On Learning
Developing Essential Skills
Our educational philosophy at Everbrook Academy is inspired by the STEAM approach to early care and education, with the goal of supporting our young learners as they develop essential skills (known as the 4 Cs) they will enable them to navigate and succeed in our ever-changing world:
- Creativity: Innovation and personal expression
- Collaboration: Working with and leading others to solve problems
- Critical Thinking: Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret information and solve problems
- Communication: Listening, presenting, public speaking
STEAM is an acronym for an educational approach that highlights the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. In a STEAM-inspired classroom, these disciplines are part of everything we do; Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math are integrated throughout the classroom and the daily routine. This is not only because the skills and knowledge are essential for children’s success, but also because focusing on the connections between these disciplines highlights the real-world application of what children are learning.
Young children learn best by being active participants in their own learning. At our school, concepts and skills are learned through exploration, investigation, play, and focused intentional teaching. By making connections between diverse skills and concepts across learning domains, we support children in becoming critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and innovators.
