My LCG Story Q&A: Miss Laurie

Let’s get to know Laurie Dunn, Junior Kindergarten Lead Teacher, at Everbrook Academy in Kirkland, WA.

Tell us about your career at LCG.

Miss Laurie: I’ve been with Everbrook Academy for two years. My school was acquired by Learning Care Group and I stayed. I’m so happy and grateful that I did. I couldn’t be happier with the company. Before LCG acquired us, I didn’t feel much support, but after the acquisition I felt support and relief from LCG.

What brought you to work in early childhood education (ECE)?

I was going through a tough time in my life and wanted to get back into the workforce. I love working with children so when I saw a job opening in child care, I jumped at the opportunity.

And how has the job experience been for you?

I absolutely love my job! I think I’ve got the best job in the world. I get to dance and sing and be creative and teach every day. And every day is different. No two days are the same and I love that challenge. There is nothing more rewarding than lighting up a child’s eyes.

What’s the best part of your workday?

Every morning when the kids are coming in with smiles and running down the halls. I get a big hug and they are so excited to tell me what they want to do today. It’s that family excitement and joy of everyone coming together for the day. I also love the end of the day, interactions with parents, and seeing a child tell their parent about their day.

How does LCG support you in your career?

What I’ve noticed with LCG is that you’re given all the support you need. You’re given the materials and curriculum to succeed. LCG is so phenomenal in their direction and approach.

They really support staff so that we can become the best educators we can.

Why have you stayed at Everbrook Academy?

It’s the families and the connections that I have with them.

In three words, describe your experience working at LCG.

Opportunity, Recognition, and Support. Opportunity: You have the chance to grow and give what you can to the community. Recognition: LCG recognizes us as serious educators and that means so much. Support: LCG is all about support and that can be hard to find in ECE. They have the kind of support in place that allows you to accomplish what you want in the classroom.
